Meal replacement drinks are a joke. There’s one in particular they give to very sick people dying of cancer who have no appetite that especially frustrates me. I get it. People with advanced stage cancer are usually too sick to eat. So according to these folks you should have them drink their product which comes in a can and contains way too much sugar and artificial vitamins which their bodies can’t process. Cancer feeds on sugar. Stooopid!
Now this same company (I will not name names) is promoting a drink for kids who are picky eaters.
Here are the ingredients: WATER, SUGAR (SUCROSE), MILK PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SOY OIL, SHORT-CHAIN FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES, SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE; LESS THAN 0.5% OF: CELLULOSE GEL, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, POTASSIUM CITRATE, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, MAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SALT (SODIUM CHLORIDE), POTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, CELLULOSE GUM, CALCIUM CARBONATE, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, ASCORBIC ACID, CARRAGEENAN, SOY LECITHIN, MONOGLYCERIDES, m-INOSITOL, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, TAURINE, FERROUS SULFATE, dl-ALPHA-TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, L-CARNITINE, ZINC SULFATE, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, NIACINAMIDE, FD&C RED #3, MANGANESE SULFATE, THIAMIN CHLORIDE HYDROCHLORIDE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, RIBOFLAVIN, CUPRIC SULFATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, FOLIC ACID, CHROMIUM CHLORIDE, BIOTIN, SODIUM SELENATE, POTASSIUM IODIDE, SODIUM MOLYBDATE, PHYLLOQUINONE, VITAMIN D3, AND CYANOCOBALAMIN.
Half of the calories come from sugar. Sugar, water, soy protein isolates (bad) and fake vitamins, oh and some red food coloring because this is the stawberry flavor drink.
I understand that having a child who is a picky eater is really hard and this is a quick fix. But this is not a good habit to start.
Instead of this crap in a can..how about throwing some organic yogurt in a blender with a banana or some berries, a little honey or stevia powder and some ice and blend away. Takes less than five minutes. Your little one starts the day off right with some good protein with probiotics for a healthy tummy, some healthy carbs, antioxidants, vitamins and enzymes from the fruit. Even better, add a little fresh ground flax seed or flax seed oil. Healthy, yummy and I bet your picky eater will love it. And for an added bonus they won’t be climbing the walls from all the sugar.
