Snack attack!

My friend’s fiance recently had a health scare and his doctor suggested he clean up his act.  She asked me for some ideas for healthy snacks and here are a few I came up with:

  • Nuts  (almonds, cashews, brazil nuts) (stay away from peanuts as they have naturally occurring toxins) . Not more than a handful a day as they are very caloric.
  • Seeds: pumpkin and sunflower
  • deviled eggs made with lowfat mayo and relish
  • string cheese
  • broiled chicken leg or wing
  • smoothie made with almond milk, a banana, some ice, some fresh ground flax seeds and a little honey
  • sushi roll
  • apple, pear or a banana spread with a tablespoon of almond butter
  • low fat Greek yogurt with berries
  • smoked salmon and cream cheese on cucumber slices
  • flax seed crackers (make your own in a dehydrator)
  • kale chips
  • dehydrated fruit snacks
  • lettuce leaves stuffed with a little brown rice and chopped raw veggies with a little tahini
  • Raw veggies and low carb salad dressing
  • Ricotta or cottage cheese with fruit, nuts and some fresh ground flax seeds
